Fossils of Zimbabwe

Tim Broderick has very kindly allowed the use here of his presentation to the Zimbabwe Professional Guides Association in September 2022 (updated with work carried out in the last two years).

In the hugely information-dense presentation below Tim Broderick provides us with a comprehensive tour of the extraordinary number of significant fossil finds in Zimbabwe in which he and other experts have been involved (from as far back as 300 million years ago). He makes the important point that the fossil heritage of our country is a crucial part of the richness we would wish, as guides, to share with visitors to Zimbabwe. This country has yielded internationally significant dinosaur fossil discoveries, including the iconic Massospondylus. Fossils also reveal Zimbabwe’s ancient ecosystems, including forests, rivers, and lakes and help us to understand our early human ancestors, such as Homo rudolfensis.
